Girls Engaged in Math & Science (GEMS)

Girls Engaged in Math and Science (GEMS) is a statewide program aimed at inspiring girls to explore fields like science, technology, engineering, and math—collectively known as STEM.

Participants in the GEMS program are invited to take part in the annual Alabama Department of Education’s GEMS Expo, which showcases their involvement and achievements in STEM. GEMS engages girls in STEM-related activities through both formal and informal learning environments, addressing the national need to reduce the gender gap in STEM. GEMS works to build self-confidence and foster a passion for math and science among female students.
